Home About Location Location LocationSopot is a small town at the foot of Stara Planina (mountain range crossing Bulgaria from its west border to the Black Sea). The cable chair-lift and sunny south-facing mountain slopes have made Sopot a favourite flying site for many hangliding and paragliding pilots over the last 20 years. Sopot is easy to access as the main road and the railway from Sofia to Burgas pass trough it. There is also a regular coach line to the neighbouring towns of Klisura and Karlovo (where the road to Plovdiv begins):
There is a regular bus line from Karlovo (5 km from Sopot) to Sopot every half an hour from Monday to Saturday noon and every hour at weekends. If you are coming from Sofia (130 km from Sopot) you can take a train from the Central Railway Station to Karlovo (7.15 a.m., 16.00 p.m., 22.15 p.m.), a bus from the international bus station (in front of the Central Railway Station) at 14.30 p.m., a bus to Kazanlak and change in Banya (10 km from Karlovo), or some of the many buses and trains to Plovdiv. If you are coming from Plovdiv (55 km from Sopot) you can take a bus to Karlovo (every hour). If you`re coming from Burgas (220 km from Sopot) you can take a train to Karlovo at 5.20 a.m. or at 13.50 p.m., or a train or bus to Plovdiv. If you`re coming from Varna (350 km from Sopot) you can take the night train to Sofia via Karlovo at 22.25, the train to Plovdiv at 9.05 a.m. or a bus to Burgas (every hour) and then a train or bus to Karlovo or Plovdiv.
